    Research interests
My research interests have focused on the application of molecular genetics to solve problems in marine ecology and evolution including especially the evolutionary and ecological significance of population differentiation, selection and adaptive processes and fishery genetics. Nowadays, I am very interested in the understanding of the inter-relationship of genetic diversities and genotypic diversities (whether individuals are mainly clonal copies versus genetically distinct individuals) between interdependent functional groups of the community

Research lines

  • Genetic adaptation in coastal lagoons, genetic responses to environmental stress (Elysia timida, Cerastoderma glaucum, Holothuria polii, Holothuria arguinensis, Pomatochistus marmoratus, Diplodus sargus, Caulerpa prolifera, Cymodocea nodosa and Ruppia sp).
  • Spatial and temporal genetic variability and gene flow in the Mediterranean and Atlantic Diplodus sargus andHolothuria mammata populations. Relation of gene flow and open sea circulation model: connectivity.
  • Cryptic biodiversity in the genus Holothuria from the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Pacific populations.
  • Importance of population genetics in the management of marine protected areas. Effects of fishing protection on the genetic structure of target species (fishes and sea cucumbers). Connectivity of Marine Protected Areas.
  • Genetic assessment of restocking in marine ecosystems.
