Main Research Area:

  • The role of abiotic stress and natural selection in driving population divergence in broadly-distributed marine plants and algae.
  • Development of selective markers using genome-wide screens to identify stress-responsive genes, for use in studies of population-specific variation in gene expression.
  • Comparative plastid transcriptomics of fucoid species in response to physical conditions in the intertidal zone.
  • Reproductive ecology and reproductive success of interidal fucoid algae, mating system evolution

Previous positions:

1997 - 2003 Postdoctoral Fellow at Centro de Ciências do Mar, Universidade do Algarve, Portugal.
1994 - 1996 Research Associate, University of Maine, Orono, USA
1991 - 1994 Research Assistant, University of Maine, Orono, USA.
